What a wonderful sight it was, the weather was clear and the peaks and the valleys stood out clearly, their forms accentuated by an early sprinkling of snow. My first experience of skiing on snow was ay Engelberg in Switzerland. I dare not say how many years ago this was but I was so impressed by the amount of snow. I have many happy memories of that visit.
This area is unique as an ice cave has been carved through its glacier. (picture credits to the Virtual Tourist). This glacier is now in retreat at a scary rate. This will have all sorts of social, environmental and economic consequences. Can you imagine that in trying to safeguard the glacier they wrap it up in a sort of fleece blanket to try and stop it melting in the summer! Well now in Engelberg they do this. The European Union has produced an excellent video on Living with Climate Change which can be accessed on the European Environment Agency website.
I am currently about to launch a series of seminars on Business and the Environment and you can get the details of these by contacting me. I will cover climate change in these, albeit briefly.
